British Lop

The British Lop is a large white pig first seen in the South West  from the old Celtic Pigs of Ireland and Wales. They were popular in the South West of England until the mid 1950's when the pig industry decided to concentrate on only three breeds.

The British lop is one of the larger breeds. It is long and lean with deep sides. It has lop ears, a pure white skin and long silky hair. It is an easy to manage, docile pig and is happy to be kept outdoors all year round. They are excellent at foraging and grazing, produce good sized litters and are excellent mothers.

The British Lop is a good 'all round'' pig producing excellent pork, ham and bacon.

The British Lop is an endangered species with less than 200 registered breeding
sows.
